Considerations for Orthodontic Treatment in Patients with Endodontically Treated Teeth with Inflammatory Periapical Lesion
Jang Jun-Kyu

Abstract
As the number of adult patients seeking orthodontic treatment increases, we often encounter patients that have endodontically treated teeth with periapical lesion. A 30-year, 3-month-old female patient presented with a chief complaint of protrusion and lower anterior spacing. The mandibular left 1st and 2nd molars had previously received root canal treatment, but periapical lesion remained. During orthodontic treatment, the size of the periapical lesion and tooth mobility increased. Root canal retreatment was performed, and the lesion was subsided. If orthodontic treatment is scheduled, it is necessary to inform the patient of the possibility that the apical lesion of the tooth may increase and to prepare informed consent including the possibility of extraction.
